Birkenhead Sixth Form College hosted its annual Futures Day, bringing together over 70 organisations, universities, and employers to support first year students as they begin thinking about life beyond college.
The day was packed with opportunities, insights and inspiration. From industry-specific career talks to higher education advice, Futures Day served as a springboard for students to explore the wide range of paths available to them. Talks from leading professionals, including experts in environmental science from Welsh Mountain Zoo and journalists from ITV News, offered students a behind the scenes look at real world careers, helping them envision their own futures.
In addition to the talks, the event featured a Higher Education Fair with top universities from across the UK, including University of Sheffield, Lancaster University, the University of Manchester, and the University of Chester, to name a few. Students also took part in an engaging Careers Kahoot Quiz.
A key moment of the event was the student awards ceremony, where four students were recognised for best representing the College’s core values of Positivity, Ambition, Resilience, and Thoughtfulness. Staff nominated: Marcel for Be Positive, Will for Be Ambitious, Katie for Be Resilient, Emmanuella for Be Thoughtful. These awards highlighted the importance of character and attitude, celebrating students who represent the spirit of College values.
A street food lunch and ice-cream added to the celebratory spirit of the day, giving students a chance to relax, socialise, and reflect on everything they’d learned. With a variety of delicious options on offer, from gourmet burgers and loaded fries to fresh wraps and vegetarian delights, the vibrant food stalls created a festival-like atmosphere.
Futures Day is just one part of the College’s comprehensive Careers Programme. At Birkenhead Sixth Form College, preparing students for their next steps is a central part of the College ethos. The careers programme is designed to ensure that all students receive high quality advice tailored to their aspirations.
The impact of Futures Day was clear, as students left with a stronger sense of direction, new connections, and renewed motivation. As it marked their final day of the academic year, the event offered a meaningful and memorable conclusion, a chance to celebrate achievements, reflect on progress, and look ahead to the exciting possibilities their futures hold.
