Birkenhead Sixth Form College is an Ofsted Outstanding provider, with exceptional results placing it among the top three sixth form colleges in the country. With a vibrant community of over 1,600 students, the College attracts learners from schools across the Wirral and the wider region who are looking for an ambitious, high-performing and supportive next step.
For many students, the decision to make the switch is influenced by the welcoming atmosphere experienced at College open events. Charlotte explained how attending an open evening helped her decide. She said:
“I made the switch to Birkenhead Sixth Form College because when I went to the open evenings, I found the environment to be very welcoming and it seemed to be the College for me.”
Feeling comfortable and supported from the very first visit is a common theme among students who choose Birkenhead Sixth Form College.
Milly, who studies Psychology, Health & Social Care and Textiles, highlighted the College’s wide subject offer as a key factor in her decision. With no subject option blocks, students are free to choose any combination of courses. She said she made the switch because of
“the range of different subjects, and everyone was really nice at the open evening, so you do just want to come here.”
This flexibility, combined with a friendly and inclusive community, helped Milly feel confident about starting the next stage of her education.
Isabella, who studies Fine Art, Psychology and Sociology, also emphasised the importance of the learning environment. She explained that she preferred the atmosphere at Birkenhead Sixth Form College, adding:
“Having come from a grammar school, Birkenhead Sixth Form College feels like a more university-like environment.”
These student experiences reflect why young people from across the Wirral are choosing to make the switch to Birkenhead Sixth Form College – drawn by its welcoming community, broad subject choice and positive, aspirational learning environment.
