Students and staff from Birkenhead Sixth Form College enjoyed a memorable visit to New York City as part of the College’s annual July trip.

The trip began with a day of travelling before the group headed straight into the heart of Manhattan, exploring the dazzling lights of Times Square before heading up to the top of the Empire State Building, where they took in sweeping views of the New York skyline.

Day two started on a more reflective note with a visit to the 9/11 Memorial. The experience left a deep impression on many students. Afterward, the group explored DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass), one of Brooklyn’s most scenic neighbourhoods, and enjoyed lunch at the bustling Time Out Market. The day continued with a walk across the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, before the evening offered two options: some students attended a thrilling New York Yankees baseball game, while others had the chance to see top Broadway shows, including Hamilton, Wicked, and Chicago.

Day three gave students a more relaxed morning, with a few opting to take on a 5k run around Central Park. The group then came together to visit the Central Park Zoo, where a snow leopard was among the highlights. In the afternoon, they boarded the Staten Island Ferry, offering great views of the Statue of Liberty, before heading to Coney Island to round off the day.

On day four, the trip concluded with visits to The Edge, a dramatic glass observation deck offering panoramic views, and made one last visit to Times Square. Before heading home, students enjoyed a fun and lively meal at Ellen’s Stardust Diner, known for its singing waitstaff and Broadway-style atmosphere, a fitting end to an unforgettable trip.

The annual New York trip continues to be a standout tradition for Birkenhead Sixth Form College, offering students not just a trip abroad, but a chance to make lasting memories and broaden their horizons.
