Higher Education week at College provided students with an inspiring and informative programme designed to support their next steps beyond College and help them explore future career pathways.

As part of the College’s wider careers programme, the four-day event brought together a diverse range of universities and specialist providers, including Russell Group institutions such as the University of York, the University of Sheffield and the University of Liverpool, offering students valuable insight into university life, courses and progression routes into a wide variety of professions.

Throughout the week, students attended expert-led talks that helped them understand how their subject choices can lead to specific careers. Whether aspiring to work in the creative industries, law, business or beyond, students were able to engage with universities and organisations aligned to their ambitions. Those interested in the arts connected with institutions such as LIPA and LMA, while students considering careers in law gained insight through discussions with the University of Law.

Lunchtime drop-in sessions created further opportunities for students to have meaningful one-to-one conversations, ask detailed questions and explore the pathways available to them. This personalised approach allowed students to make clearer connections between higher education and their long-term career goals.

The event empowered students to think ambitiously about their futures, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to take the next steps towards their chosen professions.

Jack Millington, organiser of HE Week and tutor at the College, said: “This HE week was by far and away the most complex version of the event we’ve ever had at BSFC! The students had plenty to interact with ranging from HE Talks from a range of universities, to the Scholarship talks where students could engage with a speaker and chat about bursary information and support.

Jack continued: “The Lunchtime drop-in sessions gave the students an opportunity to ask more course related questions, with so much on offer it was great for everyone to engage with their futures! It was also a great success for our A1 cohort as more students attended the events than ever before, demonstrating a clear engagement with Higher Education. Next year’s event planning is already underway!”

Higher Education week is a key part of the College’s commitment to delivering a high-quality careers programme, ensuring every student is supported in making informed, aspirational choices and is fully prepared to progress into higher education and their future career.
