Image of Higher Education Week Inspires Students to Plan Their Next Steps

Higher Education Week at College provided students with an engaging and informative programme designed to support their next steps beyond College.

As part of the College’s wider careers programme, the four-day event offered students valuable insight into university life, courses, and application processes through a series of talks and interactive drop-in sessions.

Across the week, students heard directly from institutions including Newcastle University, Edge Hill University, Queen’s University Belfast, Leeds Arts University, Bangor University, the University of York, the University of Hull, the University of Liverpool, Lancaster University, the University of Sheffield and LMA. These sessions gave students the opportunity to learn more about different courses, entry requirements and student experiences.

In addition, lunchtime drop-in sessions provided a more informal setting for students to speak one-to-one with representatives from a wide range of universities. These included Nottingham Trent University, Wrexham University, Manchester Metropolitan University, the University of Central Lancashire, Aberystwyth University, Liverpool John Moores University, the University of Chester, the University of the Arts London, the University of Law, Liverpool Hope University, Glasgow Caledonian University, the University of Huddersfield, LIPA and more.

The event enabled students to ask questions, gather tailored advice and explore a variety of options, helping them make informed decisions about their next steps.

Jack Millington, organiser of HE Week and tutor at the College, said: “HE Week was by far and away the most complex version of the event we’ve ever had at BSFC! The students had plenty to interact with, including HE talks from a range of universities, to the Scholarship talks where students could engage with a speaker and chat about bursary information and support. The lunchtime drop-in sessions gave the students an opportunity to ask more course related questions, with so much on offer it was great for everyone to engage with their futures! It was also a great success for Year 1 as more students attended the events than ever before, demonstrating a clear engagement with Higher Education. Next year’s event planning is already underway!”

Higher Education Week is a key part of the College’s commitment to providing a comprehensive careers programme, ensuring students are well-prepared and confident as they progress towards university and beyond.
