The College stage was transformed into the bright lights of New York as students delivered a spectacular production, A Night on Broadway, across two unforgettable evenings on 15 and 16 December.
The show celebrated the very best of musical theatre, showcasing a rich variety of styles, stories and performances. Audiences were captivated by powerful dramatic scenes from & Juliet, Little Shop of Horrors and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, with students demonstrating emotional depth, confidence and impressive stage presence.
Stylish, high-energy choreography inspired by Chicago added a slick, professional feel to the production, while show-stopping musical numbers from Grease had the audience clapping along and cheering from their seats. Each section of the performance highlighted the versatility and talent of the cast, blending drama, dance and song into a polished and engaging programme.
The show was directed by Head of Drama, Sian Murray, with Head of Dance Emma Potter choreographing the frequent dance pieces that brought energy and precision to the stage. Head of Music Alec Hulton also conducted the live band, who delivered an outstanding performance of well-known songs including Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now.
Sian Murray, Head of Drama at the College stated,
“As Head of Drama and college production this is one of my favourite events on the calendar! I'm proud of every student involved, what a ridiculously talented bunch.
We had students who don’t study Drama or Dance at A level but still got on stage with full Mean Girls confidence, Grease energy, and serious Everybody’s Talking About Jamie bravery. At 17, it takes real guts to perform in front of an audience and they all absolutely smashed it.
Rehearsals were full of laughs, real conversations, time away from phones, new friendships forming and core memories being formed. This is what college productions are all about!”
Students should be extremely proud of a performance that was both thoughtful and thought-provoking. It was inspiring to witness the creativity and performativity that our students have to offer, and the production stood as a testament to their commitment and talent. We are already very much looking forward to the next College production.
The production was a true celebration of creativity, teamwork and dedication, and proved to be a fitting finale to the term and a memorable experience for all who attended.
