There was cause for celebration at The Sixth Form College as the BSFC Football Team won 2-1 against Kingsway Academy in the final of the Wirral Cup at Prenton Park.

After a great team performance, the winning goals were scored by Morgan Woods and Jacob McLaughlin. The team had a fantastic run throughout the competition after making it into the Cup Final following a 5-3 win against St John Plessington in the Quarter Finals and Wirral Metropilitan College 6-3 after extra time. It was a team effort throughout, using 18 players who all made a significant contribution in getting to the final.

Adam Thomas, Sports and Physical Education Tutor at The Sixth Form College, who coaches the Football Team, says, “I am immensely proud of the team and their achievement. It has been a long, hard challenging season for the first and second teams playing a combined total of 40 games this season and the students have regularly been praised for their sportsmanship by the opposition.”

The team are now attempting to go for the double win as they face the Merseyside Elite League Playoff Semi-final against Deyes High School from Maghull.

Adam continued, “These successful experiences will have lasting memories for our students and help contribute to shaping them for the future and promote the college as a place where the student athlete can achieve.”

Morgan Woods, a former Woodchurch High School student and the first goal scorer of the match said, “It felt great to score and help the team get the win. Adam supported us throughout the season. He kept the line-up consistent throughout which allowed us to gel as a team.  Being part of the team has definitely added to my college experience - it helped to motivate us all knowing we had important games to play.”

Jacob McLaughlin, a former Bebington High Sports College student, who scored the final winning goal, added, “I was so happy when I scored and helped to secure our place as the best team in Wirral. It was a team effort and everyone played really well, Adam has been a great Football coach. I had begun to lose interest in playing Football towards the end of school but since joining the College, Adam has helped to motivate me to continue playing and I’m really glad that he did. I’d like to thank him for everything he has done for me and the rest of the team.”
