Image of Students Receive Apprenticeship Advice from Former Student Jonathan Plotnicki

Jonathan Plotnicki, a former student at The Sixth Form College, returned to deliver a talk to our current students about the Civil Service Fast Track Apprenticeship Scheme and offer advice to those looking to join a Higher Level Apprenticeship after completing their studies.

Jonathan, who joined the Sixth Form College from Wirral Grammar School for Boys to study English Language, Psychology and Biology, is currently involved in the Apprenticeship Scheme and is training to be a Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA) and is hoping to gain a Level 4 Business & Commercial Awareness Diploma.

The Civil Service Fast Track Apprenticeship Scheme is the government’s flagship scheme to offer entry for those with Level 3 qualification into career sectors that would have previously only been available to degree level applicants. Jonathan has the opportunity to complete this Apprenticeship alongside his role as an IT Recharge Analyst in the Department for Work and Pensions, meaning he is able to earn a salary alongside his studies.

Jonathan felt this was the right decision for him at the start of his working life stating, “The rise in tuition fees made me uncertain about University so I decided to explore other avenues of gaining a higher level qualification. The Civil Service Apprenticeship Scheme seemed like the ideal opportunity to gain an advanced qualification whilst also earning a competitive salary.”

Jonathan also commented on how his time at The Sixth Form College helped to prepare him for working life, “The Sixth Form College strikes the right balance - you are treated like an adult, yet encouraged to motivate yourself to succeed at the same time. The tutors were great and provided unparalleled support so I felt fully prepared for Higher Education and Work."
