Image of New Course: The ABC Foundation Diploma in Art, Design and Media

September saw the launch of The Sixth Form College’s full time Art & Design Course, the ABC Foundation Diploma in Art, Design and Media. The course follows A Level study and provides the thorough, specialist preparation for Higher Education that most Universities require from applicants.

Students enrolled on the course are already appreciating the new opportunities open to them; Natasha Williams comments “the course has already improved my confidence. I enjoy the challenge and fast pace of the work”. Eleanor Hall adds “I have been allowed to experiment more freely than before and I now feel confident about taking real creative risks”.

The students are based on the top floor of the excellent new Art & Design facility where they have discrete work areas and enjoy views across the Wirral to Liverpool. Jake Garrity comments “it feels like a second home – I look forward to getting up in the morning and going to work”

The course is delivered by staff with professional experience across the full range of Art & Design disciplines and will also enjoy contributions from local artists and HE professionals; trips to London and Berlin are also planned for later in the year. Angela Watson, Course Leader, is delighted with progress already being made, “the students have already embraced the ethos of the course, they are working more independently and discovering previously untapped aspects of their creativity”, Ben Cullen, a student who is exploring many materials and techniques for the first time summarises, “this course is already very positive for me, I am already seeing my artistic skills develop in significant ways”.
