Image of Futures Day inspires students to turn ambition into opportunity

Birkenhead Sixth Form College's annual Futures Day brought together more than 70 universities, employers and organisations to give first year students an inspiring glimpse into the opportunities that await them beyond College.

Futures Day is a key part of the College's commitment to ensuring every student is well prepared for life beyond sixth form. Through meaningful engagement with universities, employers and industry professionals, students gain the knowledge, confidence and inspiration needed to make informed decisions about their future.

Throughout the day, students heard from professionals working across a range of exciting industries, gaining valuable insight into the realities of different careers and the routes into them. Inspirational talks from representatives of the Royal Air Force and journalists from ITV News highlighted the breadth of opportunities available, offering students an authentic perspective on life beyond education while encouraging them to consider where their own talents and interests could take them.

Students also explored a vibrant Higher Education Fair featuring universities from across the UK, speaking directly with admissions teams and discovering the wide range of courses and experiences available to them. An interactive Careers Kahoot quiz added a fun and engaging element to the day, challenging students' knowledge while reinforcing the importance of planning for the future.

A particularly memorable moment came during the annual student awards ceremony, where staff recognised four students who have consistently demonstrated the College's core values of Positivity, Ambition, Resilience and Thoughtfulness throughout the year. The awards celebrated not only academic commitment, but the personal qualities that define the College community and help students flourish both during their time at College and in the years that follow. Congratulations to Lucas, who received the Be Positive award; Maggie, who was recognised with the Be Ambitious award; Ossie, winner of the Be Resilient award; and Andria who received the Be Thoughtful award.

The celebrations continued with a street food lunch and ice cream, giving students the opportunity to spend time together, reflect on an inspiring day and celebrate the successful completion of their first year at College.

Futures Day forms an integral part of Birkenhead Sixth Form College's outstanding Careers Programme, which is designed to equip every student with the knowledge, confidence and experiences they need to make informed choices about their future. Through meaningful encounters with employers, universities and professionals, students are empowered to explore their potential, raise their aspirations and take confident steps towards achieving their goals.

As students left campus for the summer, Futures Day provided a fitting conclusion to a year of growth, achievement and discovery. More than just an event, it was a celebration of possibility, demonstrating that with ambition, determination and the right support, every student has the opportunity to build a future they can be proud of.
