Year 10 Students Inspired to Aim Higher Through Birkenhead Sixth Form College Academic Taster Programme

Birkenhead Sixth Form College has been inspiring the next generation of learners by welcoming Year 10 students from Ridgeway High School and Woodchurch High School to campus, while also delivering an engaging programme for students at Prenton High School.

Designed to raise aspirations and encourage students to think ahead to life after GCSEs, the academic taster programme gave young people the opportunity to experience sixth form study, explore new subject areas and begin considering the exciting possibilities that lie ahead.

During their visit to the College, students took part in a series of interactive taster sessions led by specialist teachers across subjects including Psychology and Law. Rather than simply learning about the courses, students experienced what studying at an advanced level feels like, challenging their thinking, asking questions and discovering how A Levels can open doors to a wide range of university courses and future careers.

Alongside the academic sessions, students gained an insight into the wider College experience. Presentations from Assistant Principal Jen and Head of Student Development David introduced students to the supportive, ambitious and inclusive community at Birkenhead Sixth Form College, highlighting the wealth of opportunities available both inside and outside the classroom.

Meanwhile, Year 10 students at Prenton High School met with College staff to explore the breadth of courses on offer and learn more about the pathways available after GCSEs. Interactive discussions encouraged students to think about where their interests and strengths could take them, helping them make connections between subjects, higher education and future careers.

The programme reflects Birkenhead Sixth Form College's commitment to working closely with partner schools to ensure young people are equipped with the knowledge, confidence and inspiration to make informed decisions about their next steps.
