Birkenhead Sixth Form College has been shortlisted for one of the most prestigious national awards in the Further Education sector.

TES (formerly the Times Education Supplement) Awards have nominated the College for the UK Sixth Form College of the Year, just three years after the College actually won the same award to country-wide recognition.

Regarded as the ‘Oscars of Education’, the TES Awards ceremony takes place virtually on Friday 28th May where the winners of the Sixth Form College of the Year will be announced.

Birkenhead Sixth Form College have had a run of three consecutive years of picking up TES Awards, with the Sixth Form College of the Year accolade in 2018 being followed by trophies recognising both the College’s commitment to social mobility and widening participation and also quality of education in GCSE resits in Maths and English in the proceeding years.

The College is also in the running for the award for overall FE provider of the year.

The latest shortlisting further secures the College’s place as a national leader in sixth form provision.

Principal at Birkenhead Sixth Form College, Mike Kilbride, said: “Although we won this award just a short time ago, a further nomination this year is an honour, and truly recognises what both our staff and our students do each and every day.

“To say that our teachers and support staff are experts in their field is somewhat of an understatement, and this last 12 to 14 months has proven that in abundance. Rather than sit on our laurels and complain that the situation has hampered what we can do, all of our staff have been at the forefront of innovation and determination to make a difference in young people’s lives.”

Mike continued: “We are in the business of shaping futures, and award nominations like this are just part of cementing our reputation of being the best choice in the region for post-GCSE education. While many students joining us this year may not have had the experiences that their predecessors have, we are actively taking measures to address those shortcomings and give these young people the academic and personal education that they deserve.”

Winners of all the TES FE Awards will be announced on 28th May, and the full shortlists can be found by clicking here.
