Four Sixth Form College students interested in pursuing a career in Law, recently completed placements at Weightmans Solicitors in Liverpool.

Esther Alawode, who recently completed her studies at The Sixth Form College, received a scholarship placement with Weightmans Solicitors over the summer. Esther recently completed her A Level studies and achieved an A in Law, a B in Psychology and C in English Language and will now be going on to study  at Leicester University. The former Prenton High School student took advantage of the multiple extra-curricular activities on offer within the College’s Law department participating in the Bar Mock Trials, Wirral Youth Parliament and the Wirral Youth Voice Conference during her time at the College. Esther found her placement with Weightmans to be valuable stating, “It was fantastic - everyone at the company was very accommodating and the training we were given was very useful, informative and enjoyable. I'm really grateful to have been given the opportunity before starting my studies at University.” Esther hopes to become a Barrister in the future.

A Level student, Emma Donnelly gained her work experience with the Liverpool based firm through the Prime Initiative scheme. This is a nationwide initiative that  attracts large numbers of applications from students across the country and Emma did exceptionally well to secure her place on the programme. The former Woodchurch High School student was recommended to the scheme by Paula Blakemore, Head of Law at the College. Emma commented, “Paula was fantastic throughout the application process and helped to support me when putting together my personal statement. She always encourages you to push further and reach your full potential.”

Fellow second year students, Molly Woods and Alice Oyesola, also completed a week long placement at Weightmans during the summer. Molly and Alice applied for their placement through the Social Mobility Foundation which they discovered through The Sixth Form College’s Honours Programme. Molly, who joined the College from Wirral Grammar School for Girls, said, “It was really useful – we attended workshops on C.V writing and had the opportunity to work in different departments including Employment Law and Government Law, it was really interesting!” Molly is currently considering applying to study Law at UCL or Manchester University.

Alice joined the College from Ridgeway High School and would like to become a Lawyer or Barrister in the future. She achieved A grades in Law and French and B grades in Mathematics and Further Mathematics in her AS exams and plans to apply to study at Nottingham or Birmingham University later this year.
