Our Assistant Principal, Kate Rigby took part in The Great North Swim on Sunday 15th June 2014. The Great North Swim - part of The Great Swim Series - is the UK's biggest exhibition of open water swimming, staged in clean and safe lakes, lochs and docklands nationwide. Kate took to the waters in Lake Windermere to swim 1 mile in just 47 minutes.

Our challenge driven Assistant Principal says, “It was fantastic to be a part of The Great North Swim event. I think it is important to set yourself challenges that push you, as you gain a real sense of achievement when you see them through to the end. This is something that we as a College try to instil in our students, both academically and via College Enrichment programmes to ensure our students are getting the most from their College experience.”

Kate is also taking part in our Staff and Student Challenge on 4th July 2014. A team from The College will be making their way to Yorkshire to complete the first leg of the Tour de France in Le Tour Challenge Yorkshire 2014.

The team will be cycling the first stage of the world’s biggest bike race – riding 190km (about 118 miles) with climbs up to 2500m – with completion time being at least 10 hours. They have taken on this enormous challenge to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity dedicated to providing specialist support for young people with Cancer across the UK.

The BSFC cycling team have set up a Just Giving page to collect donations for the Teenage Cancer Charity, so if you would like to show your support to our Cycling Team and help raise money for this worthwhile charity, please visit, www.justgiving.com/bsfctour to make your contribution! We appreciate all donations, no matter how small.

We’d like to wish Kate and the rest of the Cycling team the very best of luck in their challenge!
