There was cause for celebration this weekend as the BSFC Football Team won 1-0 against Wallasey School in the final of the Wirral Cup at Prenton Park.

After a great team performance in the final, the winning goal was scored by student Kieran Dartnell, 17, from Eastham, early in the second half. The team had a fantastic run throughout the competition, winning the cup without conceding any goals – beating Mosslands School 3-0 in the Quarter Final match and Pensby 2-0 in the Semi Finals.

Adam Thomas, Sports and Physical Education Tutor at The Sixth Form College, who coaches the Football Team, says, “I am immensely proud of what the team has achieved. It was a great team performance in the final. There were a total of 17 players in the 3 final games combined, and each one of them delivered excellent results that contributed to this win.”

Deputy Principal Mike Kilbride also said, “A huge congratulations to our football team for winning the Wirral Cup Final.  It was a great display that all the players contributed to in a way that we can be very proud of.  Not only did they play some great football but they were sporting, gracious and good mannered throughout.  Adam Thomas has coached them this year and has also to be congratulated for the way he has got them playing and the ethos of sporting behaviour he has promoted.”

Head of Sports and Physical Education at The Sixth Form College, Pat Riley has also worked to support the team, and is an organiser of the competition, and so also deserves our appreciation and much congratulation. The staff and students involved are a credit to themselves and this college, well done to them all.”
