About the Subject

ICT Practitioners award is an excellent introduction to all aspects of ICT in the workplace. It gives students a chance to develop wide-ranging skills in many practical applications of ICT both software and hardware based. This course can provide students with a good progression route to Applied ICT GCE or other advanced courses in college as well as to other work based progression routes outside college.

Assessment

All units are assessed by coursework marked in college and externally moderated by Edexcel. The diploma is equivalent to 4 GCSE's at grades C (Pass), B (Merit), A (Distinction) and A* (Distinction*).

General Information

Working in the IT industry

Students will look at their own skills, and then a variety of jobs in the industry, and create a presentation on the skills that they need to develop, through the duration of the course.

Communicating in the IT industry

Designed to enable students to understand the variety and purpose of document types and how to present information effectively that takes into account the audience and how the document will be used.

Computer Systems

Students will look at different types of software: applications that allow people to perform the tasks they need to do, systems software such as operating systems and programs that manage computer resources and allow applications to run efficiently

Customising Applications

Students will use templates, menus, macros and toolbars to suit a variety of different user needs in a range of different software applications.

Website Development

Students will learn to see the potential of the Web and to develop a skill set which will be highly valued by industry and commerce as well as being a useful personal skill for leisure pursuits.

Computer Graphics

Students will gain an understanding of the basic principles of computer graphics and as well as developing practical skills such as developing bitmap and vector images, they will also understand the hardware and software requirements.

Animation Techniques

Students are introduced to the practical processes of animation which enables them to develop an understanding of historical and contemporary animation techniques. They will work on design, character, setting and narrative and will then focus on a specific technique for the production of an animation sequence.

What Next?

Students who successfully complete this course, and prove themselves to have satisfactorily progressed during the year, may wish to progress on to Applied ICT GCE Single or on to other advanced courses in college such as the BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in IT Level 3. Others may choose to apply for jobs or apply for workbased training outside the college using their qualification. Whichever route students wish to take this award will provide an excellent foundation.
