Entry Requirements
The Level 2 Diploma is equivalent to 4 GCSEs. The entry requirement is to have achieved at least 4 D grades from your GCSEs.
About the Subject
These courses are vocational and will cover the necessary knowledge and skills for those who want to pursue a career in Health and Social Care. The Level 2 Diploma is a real alternative to GCSEs. It is work related and covers a range of topics relevant to careers within the Health and Social Care Sector. It relates to the National Occupational Standards Level 2.
The course is 100% coursework and is particularly useful for those who prefer this method of assessment.
You will experience a range of Teaching and Learning methods and a great emphasis will be placed on practical application and occupational relevance. The course will include group work and individual learning, Case studies, class exercises, visits and much more. You will have the opportunity to gain 60 hours mandatory work experience, which is relevant to the course, and if possible your chosen career.

General Information
This course will focus on the underpinning knowledge required by those who work in Health and Social Care. You will cover a large range of topics which aim to develop your skills and knowledge.
In Unit 1 you will take part in a one to one interaction and a group interaction you will be asked to consider any barriers to comunication.
In Unit 2 you will look at the key values held by many Health and Social Care practioners and the legislation and policys that guide them.
In Unit 3 you will focus on everyday needs of individuals in society and look at the factors which affect their Health. You will make a plan to meet the needs of a specific client.
In Unit 4 you will will learn about potential hazards in health and social care environments and cover main principles of health and safety legislation applied to health and social care environments. You will understand risk assessment processes related to health or social care.
In Unit 5 you will will complete 60 hours of work experience and receive feedback. You will be encouraged to reflect on this experience and develop your practical skills.
In Unit 8 you will look at development and characteristics of each life stage from infancy older adulthood. You will cover the factors which affect development as well as how we develop our self concept.
In Unit 9 you will design, carry out and evaluate a creative activity to be used with a specific client..
In Unit 11 you will look dietary needs of individuals at different life stages. You will consider the effects of unbalanced diets on health and look at health and hygiene issues.
What Next?
From this course you may, depending on the grade you achieve progress onto the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma or possibly the A level Health and Social Care. You may also use this qualification to gain employment with in the vast Health and Social Care sector. The NHS is the largest employer in Europe as a result many positions are available with level 2 qualifications
