The college offers wide range of courses:
Creative Media Production BTEC Level 2 Diploma
Entry Requirements
Normal BSFC entry requirements for a Level 2 BTEC programme of study. You will also need to be well organised, hard working and keen to succeed.
About the Subject
BTEC qualifications are designed to provide specialist work-related qualifications in a range of sectors. They have been developed to provide the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to prepare learners for employment. The Level 2 BTEC Diploma offers a focused vocational qualification for learners who wish to follow a programme of study related to an aspect of employment that they might wish to move into, or a taster qualification which can extend their programme of study and provide an initial experience of a vocational area. The BTEC Diploma is equivalent to 4 GCSEs.
This BTEC course involves the study of four compulsory core units, and four practical optional units.
The core units provide learners with the opportunity to:
- develop the fundamental research skills which underlie all media production
- gain a basic understanding of employment opportunities, job requirements, and working practices in the media industry
- develop an understanding of how media products are constructed for specific audiences or markets.
The optional technical and production units enable learners to start building the technical skills and knowledge relevant to a sector (or sectors) of the media industry including video production and photography.
If completed successfully, this course is the equivalent of four GCSE’s at grades A* - C, depending on marks gained.
General Information
It is important that people who are thinking about working in the media should understand how the industry is structured, what types of jobs are available, what those jobs involve, and how they might be obtained.
The core units focus on developing the learners’ understanding of media audiences and products, research techniques, and the creative media sector and the ways in which the industry is organised. This will develop an understanding of specific job roles in the industry and how people are recruited into these roles.
For the optional units, students will undertake video and advertising production, alongside digital photography and a creative media production project that combines all of the skills learned throughout the year in the form of a promotional dvd and photographic exhibition.
What Next?
A BTEC in Media will help prepare students for the challenges that lie ahead and help with that all-important first step by showing what you are made of and proving that you have the commitment, skills and practical experience to succeed.
