Entry Requirements
Normal BSFC entry requirements for an AS programme of study. Preferably, you should have at least a grade C for GCSE Dance. If you don’t have GCSE you should be in current dance training working at grade 4 in ballet or modern. You could be considered without formal experience but you will need to talk to the staff.
About the Subject
This course is for any student with a keen interest in dance and a desire to study it in greater depth. You will gain experience in choreography and performance as well as engaging in critical thinking about dance. The course is a mixture of practical work and theory. It is essential that you are prepared for the practical elements of the course and are aware of the need to take part to the best of your ability.

General Information
Practical Exams:
AS
For this exam you will choreograph and perform a solo choreography of between two and three minutes duration. You will be given a choice of 4 starting points. You will also perform in a duo or trio in a specific dance style. The exam is moderated.
A2
You will choreograph a group dance of between two and three minutes duration from a choice of starting points. You do not perform in your group choreography.
You will also perform a solo dance in a performance style linked to the area of study for the written exam. The exam is externally marked.
Written Exams:
At AS you will answer both short structured questions and 2 essays on aspects of training, performing, choreographing and professional dances. At A2 you will answer one question on a set work and another on a set area
and style of dance.
What Next?
This course is recognised at HE level and is a good grounding for students wishing to study Dance or related Arts subjects at university. It provides a thorough insight into the breadth of skills and knowledge required for dance practitioners which students could later extend through a vocational training course. It also enables students to develop personal skills such as self-confidence and the ability to work successfully in a group situation.
