Dressmaking for Beginners (Thur)

COURSE OUTLINE
This course for absolute beginners will, in the first session, cover the choice of pattern and fabric together with a brief introduction to using the sewing machine.
Course topics:
• Using a pattern to cut out a garment
• Further use of the sewing machine
• Darts, gathers and seams
• Basic fitting
• Use of interfacing for yokes and facings
• Inserting a zip
• Hems and fastenings

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
No formal qualifications or knowledge are required for this course other than an enjoyment of being creative. Some sewing ability or experience will help you to achieve a pleasing result.

METHOD OF ASSESSMENT
As this is a non-accredited course, there will be no formal method of assessment.

RESOURCES YOU WILL NEED
Students will be asked to supply some materials: Dressmaker’s pins, sharps sewing needles, tape measure, tailor’s chalk, cutting-our scissors, small scissors. It is suggested that fabric and pattern is bought after the first session.
